Spring Ledge Block House

Image
The new house/property has been referred to by many things over the past 8 months. "Spring Ledge" seems to be the winner. (There is an active spring on the property.) The tag on my house key says "Block House" from the old owners. I like that name too.  It feels good to be all moved in. My back has healed. Everything is unpacked (that can be). We are in need of shelving, drawers, and overall storage. We'll get there, gradually. The pets have adapted and now we have 6 chicks outside in the coop that Michael built.  Hello future egg-layers! Current 'Living Room' (it's the end of the kitchen) There are 3 skylights, and you can see the 3rd in this photo. New bamboo flooring. Check out this awesome mirror I bought on Etsy from a merchant in Turkey. It feels mid-century modern to me (modern, at least).  This is our closet. We have enough space. We don't have enough shelving, hanging bars or drawers. The white piece is a 'Closets by Liberty' sys...

MOVED... to Greenville!

Image
It hasn't been pretty, but when does a move go smoothly? It's been an exhausting few days. We are 100% out of the rental thanks to Michael. Yesterday morning I pulled a muscle in my back while trying to assist moving the piano. Needless to say, I couldn't help after that, as I was unable to B.L.T. (which I learned today from my Physical Therapist stands for bend, lift, twist). I just have to keep telling myself to relax and not over-exert myself. The new house is a mess. It's very hard to find anything. I don't think we have enough storage (shelving, closets, etc.) to accommodate all our stuff.  We still don't have hot water or use of our stovetop. We had a new propane tank installed outside last week and an underground line run to the house. Before the propane could be 'turned on', a Greenville Inspector had to come and approve it. That didn't happen until this morning. Then, the propane guys returned to get everything turned on BUT , we didn't ...

T-minus 1 Week until Move-in Deadline

Duke Energy installed a new pole and upgraded the transformer (on another pole).  The new pole was necessary to raise the wire higher off the ground as it declines towards the house. The floors are in, and they look great! We went with bamboo flooring for the kitchen, living area, Cypress's room, and upstairs hallway. Cypress helped with the installation. View of living area from the kitchen Michael installed new cork floors in the master bedroom (and we got a brand-new mattress). We have passion fruits growing! I found 2 separate vines on the property. These aren't ready to harvest yet. This will be our first-time trying passion fruit. Michael and Cypress found chanterelles on the property that were delicious. We have started eating the ripe tomatoes from our garden. Coral's room got new carpet squares from Flor . We ordered the random pattern tiles from the outlet. We love ordering Flor squares from the outlet - such a huge discount and really fun surprise to see...

T-minus 3 Weeks until Move-In Deadline

Image
The Greenville City Inspector came and approved continuance. However, Duke Energy has now determined that we need a new transformer (and pole to hold it). So, there was some negotiating between Michael and the electric company to get us moved up on their schedule and for some temporary power to be turned on to get the new AC unit running. That is good news, not only for comfort, but for the new flooring having a chance to dry-out (dehumidify) before Michael installs it.  Proof its cooling down. We gave the kids moderate freedom to pick out the colors of their bedrooms, I went to Ace Hardware and bought all the interior paint we needed. Cypress helped me pick-up the paint and get it loaded into my vehicle. We were lucky none of them spilled open when he accidentally dumped the entire shopping cart of paint cans onto the ground (luckily onto wood chips) in front of the store. Phew! (What a scene that was!) Coral's room = 815 Swiss Blue Cypress's room = 671 Soft Spruce Michael...

T-minus 4 Weeks until Move-In Deadline

Well, I tried to extend our rental lease for August - but it's no dice. So, we have to be moved out (and in) by July 31st. Michael recently finished putting up all the drywall (walls and ceilings). We're waiting on an inspection from the city. It's scheduled for tomorrow.🤞 Michael installing drywall on the ceiling of Cypress's bedroom closet. New dishwasher. Check out those countertops! Those are staying (for now). Coral's bedroom, all dry-walled. View from inside the new master bathroom, looking out into the bedroom. I designed an ombre shower tile wall with the help of Floor & Decor. These are the 3 colors. Our General Contractor is supposed to have his "tile guy" do this soon.  This is a photo of a recycled glass countertop from IceStone (color: Sky Pearl). I've gotten a quote for a remnant that I want to buy for the new bathroom vanity top. The slab weighs 185 lbs., so shipping is as much as the stone (NJ to SC). Because we don't own a fo...

Roof, Bad Insulators, Turtle Rescue, Move Delay🏚️

Image
We finally got a new roof! It's called a rolled roof, which is ideal for a flat roof, like ours. Here are some photos of the process: Above: Michael inspecting the almost finished product Above: Our framed-in shower Above: the plumbing on the other side of the wall of the new bathroom Above: Coral rescuing a turtle that fell into the inground pool The spray foam insulators did not meet Michael's quality standards (and rightfully so once it was explained to me and the general contractor, and even verified with the supplier of the foam). They left about an hour into the job and won't be returning. Tomorrow, another company will come to insulate. 🚩Red flags: small rig, basic set-up, blow torch to manually heat the  foam. 🚩 Last weekend we purchased a new refrigerator, dishwasher, and queen-sized mattress. Next up: windows, electric completion, drywall, and floors. Will this be done in 5 weeks? No. Let's push this move to July! 💲💲💲
