New Electric, Skylights Take 2, Vanity Mirror

I haven't been by the house in almost 2 weeks. But Michael is there practically every day. The Electrician's team has spent many days so far re-wiring the house. They aren't done yet. Luckily Michael is there to assist and occasionally correct their methods (think unnecessary holes drilled through concrete). We also decided to install skylights in the kitchen/living room. Michael ordered 3 from Home Depot. When he picked them up, brought them to the house and unpacked them, he found (*cough surprise surprise) 3 broken windows. He immediately brought them back. He went to a window store to order from instead, but their prices were significantly higher. So, he gave Home Depot another shot. The next skylight window order was in perfect condition. The setback cost him several days of progress. The skylights need to be installed before any roof work can begin. 

Michael also took all the kitchen cabinet doors off to strip, sand, and refinish. He has an awesome idea to add 2 vertical stripes of turquoise epoxy inlays on each door.

Last update to report is the amazing vanity mirror I ordered for our master bathroom. I wanted an asymmetrical shape to go with the mid-century modern vibe. I also wanted an LED light as part of mirror. I've seen them in bars and restaurants and love the way they give off light. I found several sellers on etsy.com who custom make these mirrors. I'm not sure why, but all the sellers are in Turkey. It should arrive in a couple of weeks.

T-minus 4 Weeks until Move-In Deadline

Well, I tried to extend our rental lease for August - but it's no dice. So, we have to be moved out (and in) by July 31st. Michael recently finished putting up all the drywall (walls and ceilings). Waiting, waiting, waiting

The sub-contractors have slowed down drastically. The electric is not done. The roof hasn't started. The windows were ordered a while ago but haven't yet arrived. And the plumbing work hasn't started for the new bathroom. Good thing I got another draw check from the mortgage company for +$20K. That should reignite the General Contractor's motivation... Meanwhile, Michael built a kitchen island.   He procured a new range and oven as well. No countertop yet. Still pondering that decision. And today, we utilized many of the recently cut down trees to build and prep a raised garden bed.  We did this in New York as well. It's more natural and less expensive, but the wood does rot and break down in a couple of years' time. Cypress is learning to drive the tractor. Jessie came to the property for the first time today. She sniffed around the inside of the house and around the property a lot. For now, she was tied up to a tree, which she did NOT like. We will put up fenc...

The Primary Bathroom

This is the house's sole bathroom (for now). It's quite large with 2 doors - 1 to the upstairs bedroom and the other to the back hallway that connects the kitchen to the stairs going down. The tub and sink are blue. The vanity countertop is blue-speckled white laminate. I think it needs some updating. But this bathroom won't be touched for a while. Its functional - the toilet and septic are up to par. We are getting a new tankless hot water heater, so this room will benefit from that. This will be the primary bathroom once the ensuite bathroom is built in the new master bedroom.
